reflections and plans

I need to lay out a plan for the next few days, i should do this all the time really, im bad at being productive.
And very good at procrastinating.

Thats probably why I like this blog so much, and the final show preparations: they are both ways for me to feel productive without actually doing anything (other then writing)

Today i walked to uni to cancel my print time. I am booked in at 11 tomorrow morning, but when i was there on tuesday he had no paper, so i had to source my own, that sounds easy enough but its not. I needed A1 paper, the right kind of paper with the right kind of coating and feeling. Most places sells rolls and sheets, but the sheets are only up to a3, maybe a2. and that just wont do. And a roll is a good 100 squids. So i went there to cancel, but then he found some paper after all! I was gonna go to The print space to get it printed, but I save much more money this way!

I’m printing a 60 x 60 cm print for the red gate gallery where i have a show its starting next week, i have to invite everyone!

I wanna apply for more exhibitions too, but thats probably a bad idea! At least for the moment.

Anyway, i was talking about a plan, and now im gonna make one!

at the moment im shooting a time-lapse of some white flowers dying, they will be dead enough by tomorrow so then i can get on with things.

This is what i need to do:

– finish white flower time-lapse.
– print print for exhibition
– do another octopus animation (i got a new one today, he is big, im gonna do one arm at a time)
– do stop motions of  toys (the bugs, the little animals, the soldiers etc.)
– stop motions of sweets (marshmallows, gummibreas etc.)
– do more time lapses of meat
– scan and animate the last of the drawings

I need to get one with putting it together the video. I think ill have it so that one animations is put on top of another, one will cover another up, that way it can be longer and still be interesting. I wanna find out how to use one of my drawings as  a particle in CC particle world in after effects too.

ok im gonna go distract myself again.

Thuesday 20ts of april and yesterday

So yesterday i made a plan for the day and it worked out pretty good.

I have made a new plan for today but i thought i would talk about what i ended up doing yesterday first:

I set up the equipment to take some photos but i forgot the power leads for the lights so i could not take any photos yesterday. Instead i worked on some application forms and in after effects where i figured out how i can animate my drawings using the stroke effect, once i have played with it some more i will make a little vid to show it off.

I got a new notebook for unit 2 as i filled out the first one just in time for the swap. I love having new notebooks, they always start out so neat and organized but give me four days and it will be a mess too!

So today the plan is this

– 07.00 wake up, go home, food shop

– set up photo shoot

– breakfast ( i made arnold bennet omelet without the fish, it was lovely!)

– blog, email, unimail etc.

– shower

– after effects

– 13.00 walk to uni

– chat session with the online yr 2s about the degree show

– 15.00ish go home

– shop for bbq, make potato salad

– draw/after effects depending on the weather and time

– have a BBQ!

UPDATE: so it turns out that the meeting today will happen online via Google wave ,so i wont have to go in to uni after all!

Sunday in Norway

After the total stress of the last few weeks i have spend the day doing absolutely nothing, and its wonderful. My bags are still on the floor and just left the house to walk the dog and to get a long slow coffee with a friend. the only concern in my head is missing out on x factor when im here (IM SO SAD) but even that is sorted, cuz there is actually lots of sad ppl out there who put it up so i can download it. Over the last months is been one of those things that both me and my boyfriend takes time off work to sit down and watch, just as an excuse not to do anything at all. It’s nice.

Tomorrow I’m off to the gallery to start setting up, and i haven’t even looked at the work since i got here, but im sure flying went fine, its all wrapped up and dont seem to have any damage to it luckily! I’ll also be borrowing my dads camera this week to try and make some time lapses! My camera (nikon d40x) cant do it without me buying stupid things and stupid software, but my dads nikon d200 should do the job fine! I’m excited! And DSLR time lapses look really great. Will be shooting in raw, correcting in photoshop lightroom and making the films using the animation function in photoshop! I wonder if my dad has any lights standing around? Will ask tomorrow!

Here is a one i found of oslo at night that was made with a digital slr, im heading to oslo next monday for some sightseeing and friendseeing, should be good!

I really dont like eating breakfast

I really dont like eating breakfast, its like a chore, and having to eat the same cereal every day just makes it worse, but i dont have time for anything else…

anyways, soon i will have time for something else!! I’m pretty much done with everything that needed to be done, today i just have to write some emails, fill in another application form and have a bath before i start packing! I’m flying home on saturday and hopefully the prints for the show will be ok in my suitcase and the big print should be waiting for me when i get home! It’s being printed by the really nice people at BK Trykk, and they are mounting it for me as well, it wont cover the whole wall but its still gonna be pretty big, around 2.2 x 2.2 meter! I’m so excited now, but also really exhausted!Had my project proposal presentation yesterday witch went pretty good i think, at least ok… i wasn’t very prepared tho…

i’m looking forward to getting my head around the project and start making some work, i think im gonna start off by trying some small time lapses, maybe even try to convince my boyfriend to let me use his light cube and lights…

Will post some picks from the exhibition sooooon!!!!!!!!!! YEY!!!

It’s a plan!

I have a problem, I have no problems writing things in my notebook, i fill about two, tree pages everyday with notes, but it never turns in to anything else. I’m trying to write a new artist statement / bio type thing, and i just cant get it out of the notebook. So I have a plan; every morning I will force myself to type the notes in to my computer, and maybe even type them in here, it’s scary but i think i have too.

I was tying to map what i am interested in yesterday, and try to find out what made me wanna make the work i make. This is what i wrote down;

Things I’m interested in

– What makes something beautiful to some people and not others
– What makes something disgusting to some people and not to others
– How big a part does psychology play in this, and how much has to do with inbuilt instincts
– What makes something beautiful, what tricks can you use to create this; symmetry, repetition, golden geometry
– Contradictions within single objects like a toy soldier or a taxidermy butterfly
-Things that are not what they firs seem; things that are really small but very heavy
things that are very big but very light
traditionally cheap things made out of expensive materials like a lego brick made out of gold
– Kaleidoscopes and how they can make anything beautiful
– Pictures of bacteria and cells, extreme close ups of things
– Things that takes a while to understand how they were made

Things I wanted to create:

– Something beautiful
– Something slightly obsessive
– Something that first appear to be just beautiful, but once you look closer you see that it is not what you thought it was
– Something fun
– Something playful
– Something I would hang on my own wall (luckily i’m a bit strange so i dont mind having meat, bugs and slugs all over my living room (walls))

So what do I wanna make now? I made some notes here aswell;

– Beautiful
– Disgusting
– Big
– Interactive
– Moving

I think thins might be a pretty good way for me to get all my thoughts out of the notebook and online without worrying about grammar and shit like that. Woo.

Next I’m gonna head to The Print Space in east London and have a look at paper and mounting and shipping for the Norway exhibition.
