For this years Metric Collective Pop Up shop on Columbia Road I created two brand new digital prints.
AND HERE THEY ARE!:
I have named them Untitled Portal Blue & Untitled Portal Red – very creative, i know.
Both have a fish scale background, Red Snapper and Mackerel if you are interested. The symmetry is more complex then my pervious and contains of multiple layers.
Usually my circular print like this are more random, I never start out thinking what would be the centre and how it might look after i have mirrored it… this time however i had a plan. I wanted something that would look like a portal or a sphere when seen from afar, something a little more 3 dimensional. I went from dark to light, not just in colour but also in subject matter… slugs, bugs and worms in the dark, and flowers and butterflies in the light. I might revers these one day, use some lovely white slugs etc.
Printed them on 20×30″, on lovely velvety photorag. It makes the backs look stunning.
Might post some details in the future.
A little close up of the first new print of the new portal series. Currently on display in the Metric Pop Up on Columbia Road (ill be going on about that for a few weeks)
Whole thing to follow. Sooooooooon….
Boy, oh boy, it sure has been quiet here for a while. For multiple reasons:
1: I went on holiday
2: Work got crazy (im talking 15h days 15 days straight crazy)
3: Work got normal, i needed a break.
4: I started working on something i still can’t share.
5: I started working on something im about to share (see below)
6: Some people had babies they need cards and stuff.
7: I cut my finger. See below below for graphic image (warning: graphic image)
New work for Metric summer pop up on Columbia Rd opening tomorrow! (more to follow)
I cut my finger at work and had to have 6 stitches and the nail taken off (its back on now, temporarily)
I’m thinking it should be in a new print.
Nail now black and red. Named it.Frankenfinger.
Here is another picture from the shop to help you get over the trauma of my finger.
A couple of years ago I got bored and made a blingtato. This was right about the time when Damian Hirst made “For the Love of God” and kids were sticking swarovski crystals on theis phones . Instead of a scull all i could afford was a potato. From Tesco. And some CZs that Luke had lying around… no Diamonds are wasted on potatoes in our house.
The blingtato has been lying around our flat for several years now, and this is what it looks like now. Hard as rock but still shiny!
I saw Hirst’s scull at the Tate last year, it was very shiny. I prefer my own version.
“Poor Man’s Love of Good” or “The Blingtato”
Blog be rather dead lately. Im sorry. There were two busses involved … pictures to come.
I have been doodling with something tho… water colours. I stopped painting during my first year of my fine art degree, thats what art school does to you, but i got bored of not painting. I figured water colours would be the best/worst/kitschy/retro/safest way to return to it. Water colours are for old people and landscape painters (who are old) so therefore it is safe – it doesn’t mean anything, its not serious, and i am not a painter because of it (i dont want to be a painter, never did).
Its tricky business tho – I learned it at school, every stroke has to be thought about, there is very little room for error, you cant just wait til it drys and paint over is.
ANYWAYS… I painted something, scanned it, live paint, embed, delete, delete, delete, group, duplicate, reflect, duplicate, reflect, duplicate, reflect, multiply…
Luke likes it, what more can i ask for?
Thats right! Ive been making some new stuff, or I am working on some new stuff.
Never really like showing unfinished work off, but it might help.
First I wanted to work on some darker prints, so i tried using a black background. I really LOVE the pattern the slugs make in this one, BUTis a bit bare…
The i tried adding MORE stuff to it… That DID NOT WORK, there is just too much stuff:
So THEN i printed out the basic pattern on white and now im adding to it by hand the good old fashioned way, so far ive done 3 and a half, but ill only share the two first ones:
This one im not too keen on so far, but i might change my mind
This one I might try to do a black background on… so far its my favorite:
Im making all this stuff for the METRIC Collective shop we are doing this summer on Columbia Road, im gonna show and also sell some of my prints there!
